The biggest roadblock I see in clients is their mindset. So many of us think we just need to keep pushing through, that we just need to give it more time. But what we are currently doing is not working, and more symptoms may be popping up. Sometimes what we need is to reframe how we look at healing and health.
We all have a tendency to see things as WE are not as the thing itself is. We see things through the lens of our experience. Which means sometimes we can write off or reject options or ideas because they don’t fit our model of how we see disease and health and treatments. But if we are doing the same thing over and over to get well and it’s not working, it may become obvious that maybe that method isn’t the right one. We need to be open to new ideas and understand that there may be options out there beyond what WE think is the way or what we’ve learned from Google is the way.
We always have the option to choose. We have the option to say no to what isn’t working and to keep looking for a solution. The only person that can make you better at the end of the day, is you. YOU are the expert on your body, you are the one looking for answers to your health struggles, and you are the one who has to commit to the work of healing, It’s your life and your choice. How are you going to live it?
When I first talk to clients about the root causes of their symptoms, question their daily routines and habits, and seek to understand their long term health and fitness goals, I quickly assess if they’re truly ready to make changes or if they’re still stuck in their current beliefs. And if they’re stuck but really want to reach their goals, we first work on mindset. Because nothing else I say or do with them will make an ounce of progress until their mind is ready to hear the truth and put it into action.
Understanding that iron deficiency isn’t real and learning what is ACTUALLY going on in the body to cause all sorts of symptoms is a big mindset shift. We’ve ALL been told our whole lives that if we don’t eat enough iron, we will be iron deficient. We get labs that show we are anemic. We take iron supplements. Yet we still aren’t getting better. WHY? Because we are looking at the issue the wrong way. Instead of throwing a supplement at a symptom, let’s dig deeper. Let’s find out WHY our lab work says our iron levels are low, and work to correct THAT instead of being on a list of supplements forever. Let’s bring the energy level back FOR GOOD, so we can go forward and reach our fitness goals.
